Alright, I can’t wait any longer. I’ve been thinking about my new fest dress (for the fall of ’08) and finally have a plan.
I love everything about this dress and would someday like to make a historical reproduction. I know that finding the right fabric will be nearly impossible so until then, I’m going to use the silhouette as inspiration for my new dress. Here’s my uncolored conceptual drawing:

I’m planning to use the reverse side of the fabric (red on gold) and then find a matching red fabric for sleeves, trim, hat and forepart.
I’m pretty much convinced that if I decide to use trim (in addition to the wide red bands), I’ll go with silver. See the comparison shots:

That’s it for now. I’m going to start beading the skirt panels and worry about a bodice later in the year. All that beading is going to take quite some time.
