I always like keeping an eye on the creepy little daycare place on the main drag of town. They've been shut down numerous times for violations, and rise again with another ludicrous name, and another stab at staying open ( Read more... )

At least for Faelen, the county recognized he needed some intervention to be ready for Kindergarten (from potty training to being in a classroom environment where he had to share with other kids, take turns, etc.).

So far his ECSE year seems to have helped a lot.

I wonder how many people actually use it. I don't see as much traffic in and out as I'd expect to see.

I felt lucky I could find infant child care for my kid without having to get on waiting lists before I got pregnant. I started calling to get on waiting lists during my first trimester, and there was only one place that I was still on the waiting list for when I needed care. (IIRC, I checked out a dozen places, found 4-5 that I liked and put myself on waitlists for.)

The costs were high (infant care cost us $14K/yr in 2003). But not outrageous when you calculate what you're getting.
