So, we have a new President (or, we will as soon as the lame duck period is polished off). I'm curious to see what Obama will do with the next couple of months...will he pull an FDR, and keep his mouth shut, perhaps to avoid becoming affiliated with the current administration? I've heard the word "mandate" before in reference to Obama. I've been wondering if it has a specific election-meaning. Maybe equivalent to "landslide." Are you aware that Obama doubled McCain's electoral votes? It's not even like they could call a recount if they wanted to because they'd have to call it in about five states, including California.

Ah, I've just found an article saying Obama doesn't have a mandate because Democrats don't have a wide enough margin in the Senate. (They were winning 56-40 last I checked and apparently if they get to 60 they can do whatever the heck they want because they can stop Republican filibusters. But of the four states where results hadn't come in, three were leaning Republican, so I'm going to assume they didn't get it.)

I’ve seen/read several news articles that referred to Obama as a mandate as well. I'm pretty sure that it's election specific, considering how much Obama likes to use the word change and what not. He's got to have some sort of plan behind those words.

I think he’ll pull an FDR, given how he’s run his campaign- other than the mess with Iraq, of course. That’ll be on his plate for sure ( ... )
