No post for yesterday. I slept from about 10 am - 4:00 pm at which point I scrambled to get up and pick Leticia up. We had our Princess House Party which was fun. (and yay we're getting free stuff. Hurray for using parties to get Christmas gifts!) Unfortunately, on the way back to Woburn to drop Leticia off I got a migraine and wound up going back ( Read more... )

1,200 words is not insignificant! Keep in mind I'm in a challenge with 300,000 other people right now to write more than that per day and most of them aren't even getting that much done. Keep at it! You're getting a lot accomplished, especially for a day that was so busy.

CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute, if I remember correctly?) restraint courses...oy. I remember those when I was an aide for the school district. We had a 1:1 ED student that was a biter, a spitter, and a scratcher, so taking it was a requirement. I just wish that during the participation portion of the class that I had been paired up with people that actually meant to rush me so I could properly practice how to restrain them. Luckily my dad had no issues running at me, which made me feel better knowing that if I could restrain a grown man taller than me that I could take on a Kindergartener.

Migraines are the worst. Hope you feel better!

Yup, that's the exact CPI I'm talking about. All of the students in our program are there because of major aggression or self injurous behaviors, so all but a handful have it written into their behavior plans to be restrained when necessary. Because we don't have the staff to do it on my shift, I don't have to do it often fortunately.

It's so funny how I the struggles I have vary from student to student. There's a teenage boy who's pretty big and I have an easier time restraining him than the 70 pound new girl. She hurts so much more when she hits/scratches/headbutts, etc...
