Isaac started first grade on August 5th. He also got his first pair of glasses as he inherited the horrible eyesight that runs in my family. I seem to be the only one it has skipped.
Shortly after school started, Isaac also lost his first tooth. I remember being traumatized when I lost my first tooth, Isaac wanted to email the Tooth Fairy. Must give him points for creativity.
School: We finally have an official start date. October 5. We were delayed and delayed again due to paperwork and insurance issues. The malpractice insurance for paramedic school has an annoyingly long process to get it. So.Much.Paperwork. At this point, I just want to start so I can get done!
Work: 24 hour shifts are so very long. I made the adjustment to working days ok, but getting up at 2 am for someone who has had a headache for 3 days and NOW wants to go to the ER via ambulance...well, it's hard. And I tend to be cranky. I have discovered that if I keep a Mt. Dew by my bed (aka the small couch as our station beds SUCK) I can take a couple of swigs, rinse the "Just woke up" taste from my mouth and it wakes me up enough to complete the call but I can still pass back out when I return.
Day 01 - Introduce Yourself
I feel this is silly as most of the people who read my LJ have known me for years but the meme demands it.
I'm Pixie. I'm a 29 year old EMT (soon to be Paramedic) who has been riding in a rig for almost five years. I'm mildly obsessed with my job and will annoy you with stories until you placate me with candy.
I'm addicted to Avatar; The Last Airbender, caffeinated beverages, Facebook, sour gummi worms and Fallout 3. I love all things geeky except I don't really understand the appeal of most comic books as they confuse me. I prefer my books with all text. I read exceptionally fast and remember almost everything I read.
I live with my husband, Ryan and our roommate Nash also known as He who towers. I battle anxiety and depression but am doing much better now with the help of modern medicine. I also have Crohn's disease which has been mostly in remission for 4 years.
I am on staff for Nero Atlanta and despite the fact I often want to pull out my hair and throttle people, I love what I do. Nothing is quite as satisfying as seeing your story come to life.
I am a complete and utter asshole and snob. I think I'm funnier than just about everybody. I also think I'm better than most of the general public and they exist for my entertainment. (I have discovered this is a common belief in EMS personnel. And these statements do not apply to those I call friends.)
I want to be BFF with David Tennant.
I am firm in the belief that I will win the lottery one day.
My phone might as well be attached to my hand. I send and receive approximately 75 text messages and day. (This number jumps dramatically on days I work as I gossip with my coworkers and fellow public safety personnel)
I really want to be a firefighter as they have cool toys and don't have to wear uniform shirts at night.
Sometimes I think I'm incredibly shallow and am ashamed of this. But not often.
And day one is complete. Otherwise, I'll ramble all night.
