Neville had never felt so embarrassed in his life. He stood almost in tears when he walked into the great hall. Everyone in it started cheering. He nodded and slinked off to the Ravenclaw table. He sat a few feet away from Ginny who had stood when he entered but now was sitting back down with her parents none of them saying anything. None of them eating. He thought of standing and giving her a hug, but decided to eat before he did anything else. He sat down and put the sword beside him. Gasps emitted from everyone in the area. He picked up a cup of pumpkin juice and drank til it was empty. He pulled a bun off a platter in front of him and bit into it. He made a mental note to sign whatever petition for house elf rights Hermione shoved under his nose next. They kicked ass and still managed to keep the castle warm and have a damn good breakfast on the table.
"Neville?"
"What, sorry?" he looked to his left and saw "Hannah. How are you?"
"I've been better," she said pushing her hair out of her face. She was right. She had looked better before. Her blonde hair was stringy and her nose was covered in blood.
"I'm so sorry about Ernie."
"Me too." she said shuffling her feet under the table. "Thanks for saving us Neville." she kissed his cheek and ran off. Neville sat watching her disappear into the crowd of people. A group of people walking to come sit next to him. He sat and ate, not saying much. He heard Luna shout something and looked at her. She was pointing at absolutely nothing. He smiled, and sighed. No matter what happened to her, Luna always wore a smile and managed to get everyone else to do the same, if only for a moment.
"Neville, why'd you do it? You know, cut off the snake's head?" asked a brown haired boy he had never seen before.
"Harry asked me to." he said biting into his bun.
"You're so brave, standing up to Him like that." said Cho who had sat down across from him.
"Thank you." he said after he swallowed his bite. He was bombarded with questions and didn't get to eat much. After half an hour he was barely keeping his eyes open. "Thank you all for being to nice to me, but I don't sleep soon I might not make it through tomorrow. So goodnight." He stood and grabbed the sword of Gryffindor.
"It's morning." said someone.
"Not to me." He said walking away.
