Writing Sample #oo2: Trading ONE prison for ANOTHER.

Arkham Island, Arkham Asylum.
Locked ward.
Purposefully, almost the entire ward was kept as cold as a meat locker so it could keep their ‘prisoner' from being able to use any of her abilities to escape. Waller thought she was so smart, but just because you're smart doesn't mean you're not a complete fool. Mary was pissed of course, despite the fact they had TRIED to conceal their location from her ... the sounds of waves crashing into rock couldn't be mistaken. She was being kept prisoner at Arkham, they had broken into her home and sedated her dogs in order to capture her and bring her here. Whatever for? And then she realized it might be because of what happened during those last six months of her life. She couldn't remember a damned thing, what good would questioning her do? Unless Waller was stupid enough to try and recruit her, she was already ON two teams and the first thing she would do would be to tell both if that offer landed at her feet. But she also knew that being captured in the middle of the night could be very bad news, her wrist communicator for the league and bluetooth for team arrow were both at home.
"... Sh*t," It came out shakily as she lay there in her bare bones of a cell. The metahuman also had a horrible feeling in the pit of her stomach. Like something was coming that absolutely no one would believe. They had been in the middle of ‘interrogating' her about the last six months, what she had done or whom she had killed .... and then, the whole ward shook. No one was sure what the hell it was, communications had suddenly gone down as had the cameras. Mary felt panic begin to rise in the room when she heard distinct movement through the vents. Like someone had hooks attached to their hands, she had taken a few steps back when all of a sudden the sound of a drill tearing through bodies could be heard in the hall. Followed by words that made shivers go up her spine, ‘KILL HIM MR. BUBBLES! KILL HIM!’ Waller had pushed a table in front of the doors then, two of the guards quickly escorted her through the back to her cell again. More screams were heard as the guards locked her in her cell, something came racing down the hall why saying ‘Come here now!’ and opening fire with a maniacal laughter. On instinct, she removed the pillow from the bare bones cot and shoved it as best she could through the little iron window to keep her from seeing whatever was out there.
The problem was ... she already KNEW what was out there. Not that the world needed anymore horrors but from what she as hearing? There had to be at least ten or twelve little sisters, with one big daddy each protecting them and maybe a dozen or more splicers. The guards screams were echoing through the halls, Mary ducked under her bunk when she had heard a couple of screams -- and then angry roars followed by running stomps that shook the cells. "Someone pissed off a Big Daddy or two... that's for damn sure." Big Daddy’s came in varying forms with weapons - personally, the drill bit on the bouncer ones frightened her the most. But her entire cell exploded when two rockets were launched into it, exposing her to the open air outside when her bunk flipped over and landed on the ground beside her. Standing up, she turned to face the hallway and spotted two little girls with glowing yellow eyes holding large needles and waving to her. Standing behind them were two of the Big Daddy's with rocket launchers on their shoulders. Those were number two, and she heard a deep rumble of a laugh coming from down the hall before something ... or someone was thrown down it. Brute Splicers, those were the worst ones. And then she heard someone approaching from behind, the ground was still shaking and she quickly turned to see whom it was. A blonde woman in a doctor's coat flanked by two Bouncers, the Big Daddy's with the drills. "Hello Ms. Savarese, I am Doctor Sofia Lamb. Bring her this." She handed something large to one of the Bouncers who did as it was told, ground thumping as the creature approached and extended the item out to her. It was an oversized coat and immediately, Mary put it on and buttoned it up all the way. "This will only help so much, I know ... come, I'll bring you someplace where you will get warmer and be appreciated." The woman turned and walked towards the cliffs, Mary was hesitant to follow but did anyway in silence. Dark eyes stared in disbelief as the Big Daddy's, Little Sister's and Splicers were all climbing into ...
"Bathyspheres, you want me to come to Rapture..." Sofia blinked and turned to face Mary when she had said that. "What do you know of my city?" Mary had to be very careful in regards to how she answered that, swallowing thickly and tightening the coat around her more as the earth shook a little more behind her. One of the bouncer's made a low calm noise while standing there, Doctor Lamb continued to wait as another Bathsyphere appeared in the water. "Not much more than rumors, Dr. Lamb." One eyebrow arched on Sofia's face before the Big Daddy's dropped into the water and climbed into the Bathsyphere, the older woman didn't follow suit -- she climbed down a rope ladder and jumped in. Inhaling a deep breath, Mary carefully climbed down the ladder herself and jumped into the Bathysphere herself, the door swung shut and sealed itself before disappearing under the water again.
"Rapture is exactly 18 fathoms under the surface," Sofia spoke while the bathysphere moved throughout the water like it was being called home. Mary could only stare out into the dark murky waters under the once fallen city came into view. Both hands clasped over her mouth as she noticed that it wasn't in ruin anymore. "My great city was once in shambles but we found a way to rebuild, bring it back from the depths of decay and ruin ..." Mary's brows furrowed as she turned to Sofia, "... And what about the splicers? Do they roam free or at they trapped?" Sofia smiled, "They are trapped in Pharaoh's Fortune Casino - the airlocks have been permantly sealed by the Big Daddy's so they cannot escape and unleash havoc. No little sisters are allowed to venture through the vents that lead there anymore." The metahuman turned to face out the door again as the bathysphere moved along through the water towards the NEWLY REBUILT Welcome Center. The door soon swung open again once the sphere had entered the building and went up, the bouncers made that low calm noise as they exited the sphere carefully - ground shaking gently as they walked off and just Mary and Sofia were left. "Come, you must be starving after being held prison by that atrocious woman ... Kashmir Restaurant is just ahead. Once you're finished, I've arranged for one of the Little Sister's to escort you to Artemis Suites where you will be staying." With that, Sofia walked off in another direction -- for the tunnels that were visible throughout the city that could be walked through.
Taking one last look out through the water, Mary's eyes scaled up as she took in a view of the city from where she was standing and quietly walked towards the main entrance of the restaurant. Breathing in deeply, it was like the civil war that had torn Rapture apart had never even happened. Both doors swung shut behind her and she walked towards a table while whispering, "I traded one prison for another..."
