Security Reminder

Hi, I'm here from the Internet;

My friend foxsong had her LJ hacked last night (NSFW), and it's made me think about password security, especially after reading the Hack FAQ #117, particularly:

Your LiveJournal password can always be reset by anyone with access to the current email address associated with your account, as well as any email address which ( Read more... )

Or...Just don't give anyone your password in the first place.

Besides...no one ever guesses "password". lol!

The best was the PW to the SQL server account that was setup on the network at McGlynn's when I took it over. There was none. It was blank. I laughed. Much hilarity.

I've actually used that one. "Password". Heh. Used it at Papa John's when I was a delivery driver, and had to give it to my managers when they would dispatch me for a run. Much hilarity would ensue. Another good one was "Nottellin". :)

I've always felt that I don't have an identity to steal. Who wants frightful credit, no money, and no worth?

Spammers already have that, I suppose.

No, really. It's me.

The thing that gets me is that I *did* change my password the night before, because I had read about some hacking going on.

Phoenix, my friend, this post of yours was the first way I knew what had happened -- it was on top of my friends page when I happened to come home for lunch and check in, which I don't usually do. I was able to wrest the LJ back from the hands of the hacker within twenty minutes. Thanks for posting -- otherwise I dunno what else might have happened.

All my money stuff has way different passwords than this more casual stuff, so I hope this is the last of it! :-p
