Dinner Tonight: Car-B-Que!

We went and had dinner with my in-laws tonight at Obento Ya. We had tempura, miso soup, a couple of Sapporos, and I ordered the Sushi Bowl, which is just like a sushi platter, but all mixed in a bowl. You know what's really crazy? I actually thought about that once the fire department showed up. But I had left my phone on the charger at home. Sucks, too. I could have had some great pics of that.

Interesting tidbit: ちらし寿司 (chirashizushi, or scattered sushi) is probably the most common way for sushi to be eaten in Japan -- especially when made at home. That's how we usually do it when we make it at our house.

It would be a lot easier than making all those fancy, arty-looking rolls. And it's just as tasty. Frankly, I'm sure that's why it was on special - it just goes so much faster to throw everything into a bowl.

Yes, much less time and tinkering needed. We have, on occasion, had sushi parties, where we put all of the different ingredients into little bowls and then just have people scoop their custom sushi into their own bowl. It's great, and a ton of fun!

I am glad you were able to help them put out the fire until the local fire department came! So, it sounds like you really earned your desert as a reward after helping put out the fire.
