Lynz is science deprived

That's one thing that's bothering me about this Masters. Instead of lovely nuts-and-bolts science there's loads of theory and artsy-fartsy social science. Talking about emotions does not compute. I deal with dead things.

This started to manifest itself during a boring lecture from a guy who runs an exhibition designing company. I ended up drawing a cladogram showing the evolutionary relationships between the starter Pokemon. With bonus evolution of Torchic arms. As you can see, I wasn't too sure on the placement of Torchic and Pipulp. Obviously they're birds, but Piplup is far more advanced. If anything, Torchic is practically regressing back to a theropod state, including a 3-fingered hand (you could argue the same for Empoleon, but since it's unique amongst birds for having horns and armour, I think the three claws on its wings are bony spurs as opposed to actually digits). Also, much debate over the placement of Bulbasaur/Turtwig. They're both reptiles with plants on their backs, but does that make them closely related? Did the symbiotic condition arise seperately, or did the turtle condition? In reality I'd have to do lots of charts to work it out, but I couldn't be arsed, so I said Turtwig is more closely related to Squirtle. Feel free to argue about this with me.

Then, as the lecture went on, I doodled a Pikachu skull.

Yes I know the mandible is too vertical. Shhhh.

Nothing more really came of this, until the next week when we had the most mind-numbingly boring lecture ever, where the lecturer said "Um" 216 times in 60 minutes (yes, I kept a tally). Then the Pokemon skeletons started taking over.

Man, Lucarios have a weird-ass skull.

Then, it's Mewtwo and Mew!

What the hell is going on with Mewtwo's tail?! I got bored drawing the processes, so they ended up looking like spikes. I tried to flatten them, so now it looks like he has stiffening rods in it instead, argh. I also couldn't decide if Mewtwo was digitrade or plantigrade, so I made him plantigrade. I think I'm wrong though, so if I ever draw this neat I'll have to change it.

Also, Mewtwo's skeleton looks oddly human. I've had a theory ever since I saw the 1st movie 10 years ago that Mewtwo had some human DNA in him, and I think this proves it, whoo.

And now, because I want to give you nightmares, Lugia skeleton!

Holy shit, did this ever go wrong. I tried to draw the body at an angle, and so the ribcage and the pelvis went horribly wrong. Still, I quite like the skull. I ummed and ahhed over it, but decided to make Lugia a mammal in the end. Made more sense.

Heh, doodling these things is actually rather fun. I should try and draw them up neat at some point. Try and inflict a few more nightmares ;)
