Unusual uses for a hot tub?

My parents are renting a place with a hot tub. The land lord drops by often and checks things like the hot tub which must never be below 100 deg and he gets really pissed when they turn it down to 96 deg. This is costing my parents a small fortune in energy (and water, because he also insists that the sprinklers run like 10 times/week, even when ( Read more... )

what if the eggs are bagged in unclorinated water and then put in the hot tub. lol.

I'd totally be interested in the hot tub while I'm in town... but you have one at your place and your mom will be out of town, huh?

We have 3 in our complex. But it doesn't matter if my mom's out of town, you can still use their tub. It's more private and doesn't close at 10 or 11. It's also 20 miles away.

Uh...are they in CA? I thought landlords were required by law to pay the water bill. At least, that's what my previous two landlords said.

But it's the heat that costs the fortune...a place I used to rent a room in had a tub, and heating it at $10-$30 a day was a bit ridiculous (depends what the starting temp is).

The landlord cannot make them keep it at 100 unless it's written specifically in the contract. Otherwise, he should pay it.

Whether or not he can MAKE them isn't really the issue. They may want to move soon, but finding a place and moving is several-thousand-dollars expensive so keeping a roughly friendly relationship with the landlord in the meantime is the important so he doesn't make them more miserable. He's already breaking the contract by showing up unexpectedly to check stuff like that but he's doing it anyway. I think he justifies it by not going in the house (though I think he peers in windows).

Anyway, yes, the electricity and water are running hundreds a month. Not all of that is the hot tub (obviously) but its enough to be obnoxious.

I think that's an LA rule. In San Diego, I've always had to pay and so have they.
