Summer Job!

I just took a job teaching Gateways summer school. I'll be teaching physics to elementary kids (sound/music to 1st/2nd grade and light/color to 3rd/4th grade). It's more like a camp-club situation than a school (no grading or homework). Lots of projects and stuff. Each session is 3 weeks (2 sessions), M-Th and I'd see each group of kids for 1 ( Read more... )

Thanks! I'm glad someone else thinks it sounds good. My husband gave me a half-excited, half-hesitant response of something like, "That sounds great and I'm glad you're excited... I hope you like it." I have a feeling I'll like it a lot, but even if I don't, I've only committed myself to 24 days total. And if I love it, there's the possibility of doing it again next summer!

Cube seems like the sort who might be slightly child-phobic. :)

I'd think that too except I've seen him with kids. He's really good with them and seeks them out. Now, I've only seen him with small groups of kids who he's also related to, but more than once he's sought out the 2/5/9 year old to go play with them.

Yes-ish.

I spend a couple of days helping an elementary school science teacher with all her classes so that was K-5. So I've taught K, but really only for like 2 hours. I did teach 3 years of vacation bible school to 1st grade (and by years, I really mean a couple of weeks in each summer), I did the same for 3rd grade in a different summer, and I taught sunday school for a year (on a rotating schedule with other teachers) for 4th/5th graders. So my experience is spotty (and vaguely religious-- though that was really about sharing, and love, and being nice to others), but I do have a little bit of experience with that age group.

Oh, and they offered me high school rocketry/engineering but that doesn't sound like as much fun to me right now. I think it's a great class, but not as exciting for me.
