How do you feel about pets?

I'm not being glib. Pets don't care who you are or what you've done. They just love us. And loving them makes us better.

I know you're not being glib. I've actually considered it, but I'm barely able to take care of myself. I couldn't manage it at this time.

I get that. If you like animals, you could also consider volunteering at a local shelter -- no-kill, to save your heart a bit. (It's something I wish I had the energy to do.)

I'm not being glib here either, but pets can be an amazing thing when you're alone. I know you don't think you can take care of one right now but when the time comes, I think it would be a good idea. I know I'd go crazy around here when the kid is gone if I didn't have to get up and take care of something. Actually, it's good that I have something to take care of or else I'd just slip away and that would be it.
