Rock and Roll is dead. (along with all other defined genres)

What's everyone's preoccupation with Rock?

I'm reading this one review of radiohead's "Kid A," and the reviewer says something to the extent of "it's about time a rock album surpassed shitty rap and pop artists on the Billboard charts. The only problem is, it's not really a rock album ( Read more... )

I like your music and haven't ever even "wondered" why you don't play rock. For some reason, I just can't imagine you playing rock. But I do enjoy the songs that go "way back" that you do play...they do bring back some good feelings for me.

rock and roll is basically what's been "in" in the u.s. since it's birth. Which is strange because jazz is often called "the only american music" since it was more or less invented on our soil. You go places like europe though..things that us "rockists" often ignore like pop music are just...HUGE. Our legends are black sabbath and acdc, and led zeppelin..and over there it's madonna, james brown(although he's funk),kylie minogue...every pop artist that seems like a one hit wonder here is usually just GIGANTIC over there..like jamiroquai.

I stray away from any genre really..i only listen to bands or artists that can't be described without saying their name in the description.

Ex: Primus is...i dunno, they're just Primus.

And although jazz is my favorite form of music..i'm biased because it has much more potential to be original since the genre itself is described to have stretchable boundaries.

and i like what you do,i wish i lived there so we could jam.

stay healthy

For me it's very simple, with music, either I like it or I don't, it's a matter of it transimiting something to me.
being a musician, each key you play can touch a feeling in another person, at least to me, it has to be that way.

the "genre" only says it will have a certain kind of feel, but that is very relative nowadays.

one thing is for sure, most stuff out there nowadays stinks (and it all sounds the same!!!), and the masses consume garbage and think less for themselves each year (which is also good for the polititians)

I agree with you man. The moment you say "jazz" or "folk" or "country" or even "blues" people get turned off and thanks to their ignorant biases, they wont like you no matter how good you are ( ... )
