plus for some reason I always pronounced it "pa-la-new-ick" so my mind spelt it that way

I read on a site somewhere that it's pronounced "Paul-uh-nick" but that seems so...so unnatural. It should be pa-la-nee-uk! One more syllable, but so worth the effort.
Haha, I'm interested in the books also, but sometimes when I see a misspelt word I have nightmares afterwards, and to avoid complications involving my intestines being pulled out of my eye sockets by the letters "i" and "u", I had to correct you.
I've only read Fight Club and Survivor.
