it's funny, because your argument applies to any holiday, ceremony, or observance, really.

i usually ignore valentine's day, and it passes without incident. this year, it's gonna be really hard.

Although I hate to admit it, I do enjoy celebrating Christmas, because it's not just limited to one person like most other holidays (father/mothers day, birthdays, etc) so I have the opportunity to tell every single person I meet "Merry Christmas" without having to buy them gifts

I don't like VD because you shouldn't have to be forced to do something special for someone simply because its "that day". It's also a big "fuck you" to all the single folks out there.

i've only ever had one guy who tried to use an argument like that, but he was an a**hole of the highest standard in many, many ways.
