Why can't we appreciate a film for what it is, a film, entertainment. The cinematography was beautiful and the story was interesting. Why do we always have to dig deep and criticize and break down EVERYTHING.

I am sorry but I loved the movie and I completely over this bull shit of how westerners have no business in making brown people movies. If people are so up and arms then why aren't you making the effort to depict the more hard hitting stuff instead of overly sexed musical numbers?

so over it.

I loved the movie, I am probably going to watch it again. Not everything needs to be analyzed and we, as south asian people, don't always have to play victim to the westerners.

i totally agree with this article. my abbu saw this movie before i did, and he basically said the same thing without meaning to. it's absolute poverty porn and completely essentializing.

while i do think it's time for south asians to start representing ourselves, i don't think that the lack of cutting edge south asian artists is any reason to be okay with whatever other representations come along. also, i think that films/lit/etc are just as politically laden as any form of media, if not more so because of their seeming innocuousness. anyway.
