For me, as a post-collegiate twentysomething, I suspect it's a small grasp for emotional identity, a counterreaction to the spiritless bloat of Facebook and the unconcerned torpor of quasi-adult life. That's my reasoning, anyway, as someone who hates most things that get called memes. But, then again, my Things About Me are pretty revealing and elaborated-upon.

All of a sudden, we miss everyone.

Oh right PENS --

Best ballpoint: 0.7mm Uni-ball Jetstream (there's a 0.5 mm in Japan, but I'm not paying The J-fanboy Tax for it.)

Best gel: Pentel Slicci: 0.4mm is in my hip pocket right now. It's not quite as good at huge-and-fast jotting as a Jetstream, but is an absolute joy to write with for both notes and tiny science. The 0.3mm is in my bag for tiny science, and it kind of thrills me to write with it. I'm getting more now, I'm paying the J-tax, and I'm giving them to my friends.

Other awesome gels are the Signo DX 0.38mm and this pen I got in Germany over the summer, a 0.4mm G-Tec-C.

And an Extra Permanent Sharpie goes wherever I do. Y'know. For mischief.
