Redemption - Chapter 15/?

While Heather is a very strong woman, this chapter shows her vulnerable and human side.  I hope you find this portrayal to be realistic and true to her character.

They were now officially at war.

As feared, Jericho immediately became a target.  The ASA bombed the town and surrounding areas.  Fortunately, the preparation and air raid drills paid ( Read more... )

Well, now that I'm feeling better...here I am to finally comment on this latest chapter!!

First of all, I agree that Heather's a strong woman, but it would be tough for any woman to watch the man they love heading off into danger, with no guarantee they'll make it home. My respect for military spouses (their entire families, really) is enormous!! (What's the saying? "They also serve who only sit and wait.")

I'm glad to see Heather and Gail bonding; it makes sense that Gail would reach out to her, and help her through this particular waiting game. (Although...hmmmm...Heather more emotional than normal?? Is there a little Baby!Beck on the way?? ;) ).

Jake just stared at him with an incredulous look on his face. “Are you out of your fucking mind? Or do you just have a death wish?”

BWAHAHAHAHA!! For some reason, the thought of Jake as the voice of reason just cracks me up!! :D

Without being obvious about it, Heather tried to memorize every inch of his body.

Don't blame her. Guuuhhh...

Glad you’re feeling better!! Being sick is definitely no fun.

I completely agree! My brother was deployed in the first Iraq war. I saw how hard it was on our entire family, including his wife and very small children. He would send occasional videos home. I’ll never forget his 1 year old daughter standing with her nose pressed to the TV saying “da da”. It was heartbreaking. (Fortunately, he came home safe and sound.)

All I’ll say is no…or at least not yet. (Oops! Did I give something away?)

That is heartbreaking; it's so hard for families. I'm glad your brother came home safe and sound. :)

LOL - maybe...maybe not... :D

As I’ve said before, in the right circumstances, I thought they could be good friends. There’s almost a “ying and yang” about them. Beck helps Jake grow up, while Jake helps Beck loosen up.

I agree; I think they could be very good friends. And you're right - Jake does help Beck loosen up (out of self-preservation if nothing else. ;D )

I’ll let you and the other readers judge whether it is realistic enough or too rushed.

I think you did a good job of it. I thought it ( ... )
