epic tales of flea market glory

Jun 08, 2011 17:17

OK, so I think the flea market I went to this past Sunday ended up being the greatest flea market in the history of recorded time. It was so awesome I'm sort of dreading this weekend's flea market because how can it compete? It cannot ( Read more... )

Great finds and photos! I love stuff like the scrapbook. Do you think the letters on the title page are nervous or excited? Or could it be nervous excitement?

Amount of guilt you should feel about the mermaid is equal to the amount you would want someone else to have it. I'd guess ZERO.

I thought it was baroque flourishes for her epic title page. When I think teen girl handwriting I automatically think 80s bubble lettering, so it's interesting to see teen girl handwriting of another time.

Hahaha, the dark side of flea marketing is that there is a totally selfish, self-serving element constantly at play. The lady I bought my mermaid from held it back for me so I wouldn't have to walk around with it and I was REALLY UNEASY that someone would make a better offer and she'd sell it out from under me. Because I could not live without it, OBVIOUSLY.

Shhh! This is total blasphemy in the doll collecting world, but I think Tressy is prettier than Barbie.

Plus, there was a black Tressy YEARS before there was a black Barbie. Unfortunately she's crazy rare.

Damn, I was trying to link to a picture of the black Tressy:

Wow, you're right, they're way better-looking than Barbie. Black Tressy has the best eye-roll going right there.

I didn't mention this, but there's negatives of even more photos tucked into the scrapbook, and I kind of want to have prints made but at the same time that feels like kind of a creepy and inappropriate thing to do. I just want to see the wallpaper in the background of her pre-graduation pix!

I've never even heard of Tressy until now. She's gorgeous (and perfect for that CinemaScope filter on flickr).

You know, for only one leg that Blythe looks GREAT. Her face looks more matte than the Basaak doll, which is cool (although I still LOVE that high Basaak shine).

two questions:

1. Where do you get Basaak dolls?

2. Do they make black ones?

You can get Basaak dolls on ebay (listed as either Basaak or Blybe)--there's no mass-produced black dolls yet, but a lot of people customize them and make their own black Basaaks or Blythes. Sometimes the customized dolls are available on ebay. There's some flickr groups dedicated to black Blythes & Basaaks, too.

The doll photos DO look like video art. Very Sadie Benning!
