I actually like his writing style, it helps me get into the book and see what the characters are seeing. However, that's a personal opinion and I can see where it might get a little clunky. I plan to read it again when my mom is done with it.
I too wondered about Gavin, but hoped it wasn't too bad. Even when he changed, I thought he might still be good (until he ate Dougan of course).
I actually wondered more about Warren in book 3 than 4. Rereading book 3, I get the same feeling about him. I can't quite tell if he's playing them. In book 4, I tended to trust him more. Also, Navarog trapped him in the bag instead of freeing him. Of course the Society has done something like this before (Vanessa). It will be interesting to see what happens in the next book!
