Quick qns on Barometers

I'm currently revising for my gcse o level exams in october. sigh,

anyways, im revising pressure now and I got a qns. I'm sure my teacher covered this before but i kinda forgot.

Is the pressure on the position X on the RIGHT diagram below equal to the atmospheric pressure? or isit equals to:

atmospheric pressure + the height of mercury from the ( Read more... )

The X on the left is at atmospheric pressure. The X on the right is at atmospheric pressure plus the pressure due to the difference in height (and thus, in weight of mercury) between the two Xs.

That extra tall bulb in the center is irrelevant to this question.

the extra bulb in the center is because it's supposed to be a barometer.
