Healthcare Reform

I am getting really sick of people bashing the health care bill. I am not saying it is perfect but the vast majority of the provisions in it are significant improvements over the existing insurance system and hardly constitute a conversion to socialized medicine. I am sick of the fear mongering, paranoia, and propaganda being spread by the right ( Read more... )

I am so glad this bill was passed! I read a very good breakdown of the bill and what it does here: http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSN1914020220100319

I get fantastic health care through my employer, but I've seen what friends have gone through to get care, and it's not good. I know people who are thousands of dollars in debt, who couldn't get care because they had a preexisting condition like high blood pressure or, oh, being pregnant, that meant they could be denied.

This bill is an ethical step forward.

I agree, I have heard so much bill bashing in the few short hours in which it has been passed but I just can't help but think that even if it does have it's shortfalls that it is a big step in the right direction. We have time to work out the kinks but it is that base line that is so important.

I know how scary it is to live without any for of health insurance I have done it for nearly 4 years now. It is expensive and I have opted to try and self medicate because I couldn't afford to even go to a walk-in clinic. Let alone the fears of the what-ifs. We shouldn't have to be afraid.

@Blackwell: Thanks for the link! I think it is a good and I will share it with Steve because I know he wants to read more up on the bill.

The bill makes sure that children who have pre-existing conditions can get health insurance and Insurance companies will be barred from dropping people from coverage when they get sick.

Reading that this morning made me cry. It's a huge step in the right direction.

Haters gonna Hate.

I hope this won't be relevant, but the private health care I use is fantastic for pre-existing conditions. It's kind of expensive, but it brings about $700 of monthly prescriptions down to $30 and reimburses me for the large majority of office visits, as well as (if necessary) longish-term hospital visits with a relatively low deductible, all things considered.

If it turns out that there are problems with this bill (I heard there are a few final snags) I'll look up what it is...I can't remember the specific name. I got it with a pre-existing and expensive condition, so there's a chance it might help.
