- CHARACTER INFORMATION
NAME: Fletcher Tringham
CODENAME: Beansprout
SERIES/SOURCE: Fullmetal Alchemist
AGE: 10
GENDER: Male
ROLE: Student BROHOOD STUDENT FOR REALS

BACKGROUND: Since he was born, Fletcher and his older brother Russel have lived in a small mining town in Kentucky. Their father Nash was a mutant with an ability related to manipulating rocks and soil, but he passed as a "normal" person, caring for and providing for his family. Nash's most desperate wish was that Russel and Fletcher would turn out to be ordinary humans as well; he didn't want them to have to go through the torment that he had when he was growing up.

Unfortunately, when Fletcher was only four, tragedy struck. It was tradition in their little mining town for all the women and children -- those who didn't go into the mines, really -- to get together and cook for the men who worked down there. It was Mrs. Tringham's turn to deliver lunch, even though her husband wasn't a miner himself. While she was down there, though, there was a cave-in. Help didn't arrive in time; Nash would have been more than willing to expose his abilities in order to save his wife and the miners who were all trapped down there, but he was on a trip out of town and didn't hear about it until too late. Still, he blamed himself. In despair, Nash sent his sons to stay with an old friend of his, and disappeared. He was never seen again.

The brothers grew up very close to each other, due to their lack of parents. Russel became overprotective of Fletcher, and Fletcher was extremely clingy to Russel. They had a mostly normal life, aside from both of them being highly intelligent for their ages, and aside from the fights Russel constantly got into with other kids at school.

And then, Nash's worst fears were realized as Russel entered his teens and discovered he had the ability to manipulate materials made from plants. At first his powers were out of control, but with time, he managed to rein them in. Fletcher had it easier when he turned ten and discovered that he had a similar ability; having gone through almost the same thing, Russel was able to help him. It wasn't long after that that Xavier's Institute opened its doors. Fearing that they would eventually screw up and blow their covers as ordinary children, Russel and Fletcher packed their bags and enrolled.

PERSONALITY: Fletcher is a kind and gentle soul, the type of person who cares more about others than himself. The person he loves more than anything else is Russel, who's taken care of him since their father left them and their mother died. Fletcher looks up to Russel and pretty much idolizes him.

Fletcher is also very timid. He's not sure how to relate to other children his age, since he spent much of his childhood reading books and studying science. He's easily scared of things, and not the type to take risks. Of course, he's very intelligent for a child his age, with a reading level closer to that of a high school student. He was never skipped ahead in school, so wound up bored most of the time; instead of acting out, though, he used his extra time to study more advanced subjects.

When it comes to street smarts, though, he's rather naive, having been sheltered by Russel for most of his life. He knows that bad things happen and bad people exist, but only in an objective manner, having never met anybody truly awful.

APPEARANCE: Fletcher is small for his age, with blond hair and ambiguously blueish eyes. He can usually be seen wearing green overalls and a green hat that more closely resembles a headband with earflaps. His timid and meek personality accentuates his frail form, making him seem tinier than he is at times.

POWERS: Fletcher is able to control and manipulate the movement and growth of plants. He's still getting used to his powers, of course, and can only manipulate still-living plants or, if a plant is dead, can only imbue it with properties it had while alive. He can't do anything if there aren't any plants around, of course; he can only work with what's already there, he can't create something out of nothing. He prefers to use his abilities in the garden, to heal damaged plants and enhance their growth.

ANYTHING ELSE?: idgaf if there's a no-headgear policy at Mutant High School, Fletcher is keeping his bandanamuffs :| Also he has a slight southern-ish accent when he speaks, but due to spending so much of his childhood reading books he doesn't really have the vernacular to go with it.

- RP SAMPLES
First-person sample:

This school is so much bigger than the one I went to back home. There's even a lake and a hedge maze! I think I'm really going to enjoy it here.

I suppose I should introduce myself... My name is Fletcher Tringham, and my big brother and me are new students here. I'm going to do my best in all of my classes and everything else, and I hope we can all get along and be friends. It's nice to meet all of you!

Third-person sample:

They had nowhere near enough money to take an airplane, but Russel had scrounged up enough money from his part-time job and from Mr. Belshio to pay for a train ticket. The trip was long, but Fletcher didn't mind. They had sandwiches and water bottles packed, so they wouldn't have to buy anything from the overpriced train cafe. And it was their first time traveling so far. The boy was fascinated by the landscape out the window.

The brothers didn't talk much. They discussed how it would be, settling into a new home, and Russel did his best to alleviate Fletcher's worry. But already Fletcher was feeling homesick, and they couldn't discuss at all what they were going to school for. The train wasn't exactly crowded, but they couldn't risk someone overhearing.

The sun began to set, and Fletcher settled back in his seat, leaning on his brother and yawning. They had a while to go still, and he needed his rest. At least the two of them were together. He knew as long as they were, they could face anything.
