Dusting off the soap-box

From a liberal blog online:

[...]And as for this global warming issue. Where are the environmental groups? How hard is it to mount a campaign on global warming when the glaciers in Alaska are melting so badly they've had to move the visitors center closer to the glacier because the glacier is disappearing?

global warming (and cooling) is a natural process that has happened repeatedly throughout the earth's history. in fact, currently it is colder than it has been during most of earth's history. that's not to say that environmental groups and governments (read: USA) should ignore human contributions to the problem and hope it cools soon. and kyoto is a joke.

Nevermind, I totally thought you were this guy Ron who usually writes in my journal anonymously or with unfamiliar lj-handles. I responded from my email and it didn't show your userpic. I promise I wouldn't've come at you with such an aggressive tone, especially you, because despite your slight chiding in your response, I still dig you plenty to respond with much more level-headedness and respect. I sincerely apologize, Ms. Z.... Still, chill out with the SUVs, that's all I'm sayin'....

I think you misunderstood what I was trying to say. The release of carbon into the atmosphere that humans are contributing to is significant and is causing increases in global temperatures and all of the effects that come with that. However, it is important to consider that "global warming" and cooling also are natural processes that have been going on cyclically for a very long time, and right now might be one of those times that the temperatures are on an upswing. If this is the case, even shutting off every source of human released carbon will not stop this process, because, you know, the earth is mighty. Some people abuse this scientific data and try to say 'ah well it's just the earth doing it's thang, it's not our fault'. It may not all be our fault, and we may not be able to stop it, but we're certainly not helping by avoiding any serious environmental regulations, control, research...blahblah. I'm completely with you on that. And I mentioned Kyoto because that was supposed to be environmentally friendly and group supported but ( ... )

god gave us the earth to use and to enjoy, and he gave us the animals to rule over. so let's quit worrying about it. besides, to believe that humans could really cause any sort of real effect on the planet is to give us too much credit. we are small and insignificant. see wanliss for details.

Oh, I've had Space Physics with him and have gotten all the details to which you are referring...
