vgcg CHARACTER
Name: Naoto Shirogane
Series: SMT: Persona 4
Canon: OU
Age: 16
Timeline: True Ending, Max Friendship Social Link, After Protagonist's Departure from Inaba (so... like March 23, 2012)
History: Naoto is the single heir to a line of rather famous Detectives usually called as a last resort or for extremely difficult cases. Naoto personally is called to Inaba from the city to investigate a series of murders that started occurring in the small town that the local police weren't getting anywhere with. Very little is known about Naoto except that 'he' has earned the infamous title of 'Detective Prince' from the media after setting a record of cases solved for someone of such a young age. There's not much else to say about that because Naoto doesn't care about media titles, keeping 'his' attention is solely on the cases presented and not what people say. Of course, Naoto hides one secret from everyone: the fact that, while dressing, sounding, and impersonating a boy, Naoto is female. She makes up that fact with an amazing ability of perception and duty to solve whatever case is thrown at her.
She appears in the game during early May, giving the head detective on the murder case, Dojima, a headache at the station as she's placed on the murder case. Naoto is only seen as another detective and possible enemy until September arrives. From her own deductions, she figures out someone else is causing the murders instead of the suspect the police had arrested back in August. Unfortunately, they remove her from the case, calling her out on being too obsessed in proving them wrong and going as far as calling her a child due to the fixation. With no assistance, she takes matters into her own hands and, using the criminal's MO, she uses herself as bait and gets thrown into the Midnight Channel (aka Mayonaka TV). Naoto's Shadow emerges and reveals the truth to the others: she's a loner unable to accept herself due to others' scorn. Only through its defeat and her acceptance does Naoto gain the power of persona. She symbolizes the Wheel of Fortune from the Tarot Arcanum and can summon Sukuna-Hikona until her Social Link is maxed, allowing her persona to evolve to Yamato-Takeru.
With her assistance, the Investigation Team finally track down the true criminal over the course of December and take down the original source of the problem in March of the following year (2012).
(Extra Notes:
Investigation Team: The unofficial title of the group lead by Souji Seta, the protagonist, as they investigate the murders happening in Inaba.
Inaba: Full name is Yasoinaba. The country town where Persona 4 takes place.
Midnight Channel (Mayonaka TV): What started out as a rumor where you could see your soul mate on a blank television screen on a rainy night at midnight, it turned out to be another world inhabited by deadly creatures called shadows. Someone was utilizing this world for their own means... such as murder without a trace.
Shadows: Violent manifestations of negative emotions. Unable to come in contact with the human world, they live inside the television, lost in thick fog. On days following heavy rain, the fog lifts inside the television world, making the shadows go crazy and kill anything that is not a shadow trapped on their side. The stronger the emotion or denial is, the stronger the shadow born is.
Persona: Personas are the manifestations of ones inner ego or their soul. They are essentially a tamed Shadow that one has accepted. They become stronger over time and, if a resolution is made, they can evolve into even stronger forms. Personas align with Tarot Cards, literally representing the most inner self of a person.)
Personality: Independent, silent, fierce besides her small stature, Naoto is a serious character who can be cold and calculating. The moment she arrives in Inaba, she already knows that each person killed has appeared on the media before their kidnapping and refuses the idea of having 'fun'. Fun and friends are weaknesses until, of course, she's saved after being kidnapped.
In truth, Naoto is insecure about being accepted how she is. She's still young; detectives aren't kids. She's a girl; her ideal detective is male. Time would pass, but she would always be looked down upon for being female. While originally suspicious of Souji and the others, she's surprised to be accepted by them right after being rescued. Her motivations stem from the injustices as well and she wants to prove that, even though she's female, she can live up to being the 5th in the Shirogane lineage.
Getting through to her is a challenge. Being independent, she'll try handling everything on her own instead of seeking help. She doesn't want to appear weak. Until you get through to her genuinely, she'll be politely (Your mileage may vary) distant. If you can get to her, she can lighten up, smile, and be a great asset to any situation, just don't cross her. If her methods are judged, she can become rather cross and betrayal doesn't settle well with her at all.
Abilities/Additional Notes: Sharpshooter, detective, good with repairing and handling anything mechanical (had she'd been on Lover's Route in game, she would've shown this by making a digital watch for the Main Character). Also, she's able to summon a high-leveled persona named Yamato-Takeru. With Yamato, she has an array of deadly physical attacks, instant KO light and dark attacks, and the unavoidable almighty spells. That list is over on my other journal
here.
Third-Person Sample: A fixed gaze across the river, Naoto watched the people on the other side go about their daily lives within their city. It felt strange... she wasn't unfamiliar with being an outcast like this, but they were genuinely horrified of her. Actually, they were horrified of anyone that crossed the river from this place. Still, she couldn't blame them. A mysterious genocide and suddenly, people inhabiting the ruins? They might as well be blamed as the killers. Unfounded without evidence, but it was a normal response when something so major occurs. No culprit was found and the sudden populace taking refuge within the ruins just rouses more suspicion.
For a moment longer, Naoto stood there, the babbling river just faintly reaching her despite her close proximity. Finally, she just stepped back and turned on her heel, heading back towards Nesreca's Old Towne Market.
First-Person Sample Journal Post: [The video starts just as the PDA owner heads up a flight of rather unstable looking stairs. Their footsteps echo off the walls eerily, but they seem to ignore as they settle upon a landing, allowing the silence to permeate. It's dimly lit, but light shines through a distant hole in the wall.]

Perhaps it has all warn away with time, but there should be at least metal left behind for... say a spring bed. Just how old is this city? Maybe the metal has been scavenged without the other city's notice... still, quick erosion cou--
[The floor creaks and the feed is cut off as Naoto yells, falling as the ground beneath her gives out.]
