Please Mr. Gravedigger, I couldn't care If you found a golden locket full of some girl's hair

Somewhere in the wee hours of the morning, Sally managed to scrounge up enough sleep to sufficiently rise off the couch the next morning. Alex was already fiddling with something in the small kitchen, trying to coax the coffee pot into life, probably. She and Sally exchanged some sleepily mumbled greetings before the blonde staggered off to the ( Read more... )

Chris slunk into the kitchenette unhappily, still stung from his latest telling off. Distracted as he was, he didn't notice Sally until he was in there, at which point it was too late to make it look like he'd been intending to go somewhere else. He froze, hovering in the doorway uncertainly as the tea splashed over the side of the mug.

It was only as she swore he managed to shake himself from his indecision, stepping properly into the small room. "You all right?" he asked, glancing down at her hands in case she somehow wasn't sure what he meant. He still hadn't made up his mind on whether to bring up the file she'd left him. Truth be told, he hadn't thought about it at all since shoving it aside that morning.

"Yes, brilliant", Sally grumbled darkly as she reflexively wrapped her scalded fingers in a damp dishtowel that was sitting on the counter. She quickly threw Chris a small tired smile, not wanting to give the impression that she was cross with him. In fact, he was on the very short list of people who weren't sawing away at her last nerve these days, strangely enough.

"How was last night?" She asked, giving polite conversation a try for once, "Don't suppose I missed anything much."

Sally had never been one for small talk, at least not with Chris, but it put him at ease a little just the same. Despite the night being fairly mediocre, he managed to look pretty enthusiastic about. "Nah, it was all right. Should've stuck around a bit." He paused, considering that.

"Mind you, didn't half feel like shit when I woke up this morning," he added, offering her a sheepish grin. Even years into a lifestyle wear that could almost be considered a norm, he found himself feeling guilty when he had to admit to it.

Sally chuckled lightly in response at his expression, she was pretty sure she could have knitted socks out of it if you get the reference. If nothing else, Chris was always honest, even when it came to admitting massive hangovers that everyone else liked to pretend didn't exist, or chose to medicate with a large scotch.

"Well where's the fun if you learn from your mistakes?" She teased lightly, carefully taking a sip of her tea to test the temperature.
