Could anybody tell me what level Rachmaninoff's Prelude in C Sharp Minor (op. 3 no. 2) is?  I'm working on other pieces for my ATCL at the moment, but I really like this piece and I'm wondering if I might be able to include it in my program.  I'm really bad at judging grade levels of pieces higher than around grade 2.  :S  I'm learning it either ( Read more... )

I don't know what ATCL is, but it's early advanced/advanced. It is one of his easiest Preludes, though.

Jane Magrath, in her Pianist's Guide to Standard Teaching and Performance Literature puts it at a level 10. Other pieces she puts at level 10 are the first movement of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata and Chopin's D-flat prelude (Raindrop). Hope that's helpful!

If ATCL is the same as ARCT then it's appropriate.
As another poster mentioned, it's one of the easier Preludes, but it still doesn't make it any less dramatic or fun! :)

Some do not permit pieces that are not explicitly listed; others are more flexible. You may also be able to get an answer from their website or find another organization's website where the piece is listed and by cross comparison of other pieces, determine what grade the Rach. Prelude is considered to be. Regarding my earlier statement that I played it when I was about 14, doing my 6th grade, at ( ... )

Pretty sure ATCL has a repertoire list. Check if the prelude is in the list.
