It should be "is," not are because The Foo Fighters is one band, but, in informal conversation, I don't see any problem. I would say "are" if I wasn't in a situation that made me conscious of subject-verb agreement.

Christians are stupid. I was wondering where on Earth you would be that would put you in contact with Jewish and Christian summer camps on the same day.

i disagree, because saying the foo fighters implies hes talking about the band member each as a foo fighter. so saying The Foo Fighters are good is like saying the Alexs are really cool.
