iPod Touch vs. Nano

I *think* Daniel's father has the iPod Touch rather than an iPhone... and I got the impression that it's a nifty gadget for, say, showing off photos and playing the odd game and listening to the odd tune, but not necessarily worth giving up 8GB worth of music storage. Especially if you're buying it as an MP3 player.

I was once entirely insistent that I have every song in my library on my iPod. Then I got a Touch and conceded that point for having a healthy mix of some of my music, some of my movies/TV shows, and some apps all on one device.

It's pretty awesome, but given that the amount of available storage is always less than the number on the box, well, I'd just keep that in mind.

When I had a nano, I couldn't keep everything on it. I also didn't care to.

Now, I have the 16GB iPhone, and I've purged a lot of shit that I didn't really want in iTunes anymore, but the point stands, it is, in fact, quite awesome*.

Yeah, it's got a few warts, and yes, you can kill the battery in no time by dicking around with apps, but it's a tremendously useful gadget, just for keeping me within seconds of grabbing the weather report, catching up on email, and catching up on Twitter *as I'm heading out the door.* I have the advantage of an access point that blasts signal halfway down the driveway before I fall back to 3G, but that's been more than enough to cache a few bits and pieces.

* Unless you're Rob Powers.
