This might sound a little crazy (but perhaps not totally unexpected due to my pirate captaincy), but is it possible/healthy to sleep regularly in a hammock instead of a bed?  As in, replace your bed with a hammock?

I'm not joking - I thought about it seriously a few years ago, but I just remembered the idea after seeing the 'I own a hammock' bit in ( Read more... )

Think about all those folks who live in little grass huts! They sleep in hammocks...

At least it's that way in the movies ;)

I totally think you should do it.

Barring Tara's fantastic movie evidence, (*snort* love you, Lala) this is definitely possible. They do it in the Caribbean in certain areas and you sleep quite soundly in a hammock (ah, those lazy summer days). Hell, world navies did it on ships for-e-VAR so there must be something to it. Go on, PiraTanya, you know you want to....

my mum has a hammock hankering, as I call it, but she wants one in the garden. they do seem pretty comfy though

Aye, but I don't know how comfortable it'd be for long periods of time... I've slept in a hammock a few times and every time I had to move during the night I had to fully wake up to manoeuvre myself around in order to not end up on the ground... but I dunno, p'raps you're more co-ordinated than me? It sounds like a fun enterprise anyway.
