That area of the D isn't too bad, hon. I worked down there and people are still out and about that time of night. Also, you'll be parking in a garage which are monitored 24-7

It may not be "too bad," but it is still in an area that I'm not completely comfortable with. And yes, there are people out and about, and thats what I'm wary of.

I'm glad you had a good experience down there. I'm just not comfortable enough to branch out into that area right now. Maybe someday, but just not right now. It's my own issue to get over I guess, but if I don't have to deal with it right now, that would be just fine by me.

One time I got carjacked by the Spirit of Detroit. Yeah it's not a good area.

Boo-Hiss!!
I'd have to drop you off and pick you up from work every day to make sure you were ok...Detriot is cool, but it sucks at the same time!

Remeber how nervous you were going to the Tigers game, and there were tons of people around not from there...I agree with your call about not taking the job.

I seem to be getting a bit of backlash on this one... A lot of people have had great experiences living and working in Detroit. If they offer me another position in that area, maybe I'll take it. I don't know tho...

I'm just not comfortable in a big city setting... :(

That's pretty sad that you turned down the job. Obviously you have your reasons, but that mentality is what's keeping good people from working in the city and making it better.

I'm sorry that you think it's sad that I turned down the job, but like I said, it's just something I'm not comfortable with right now. Yes, I want the city to get better. Yes, I know that it's "people like me" who are stalling that process by making a decision to not work in an area that I'm not comfortable in. I know the city is getting better, it's leaps and bounds better then it was even 5 years ago. But the fact of the matter is that I'm not comfortable down there by myself. Period. You are a much stronger person then I. I've had my negative experiences, and that has jaded me to want to spend any extended period of time down there ( ... )

It was not my intent to rub you the wrong way. I was just trying to make a general comment on the issue. I totally understand you have more than one reason for turning down the job but for some reason that didn't come across in my post. I love Detroit and it is my home. It gets hard hearing nothing but negative about it. I guess I'm just trying to do my bit to defend it.. But I love the city life- as you said that comes with a lot of people and a lot more possibility of incidences. You are just as strong as me or anyone, because you are strong enough to know what's in your heart.

Yay. I feel better now. I know that you love the city, and it also was not my intention to rub you the wrong way about it either. :) I could never live in the city, and I think that takes balls to live there and say "Hey! We can make this a better place!" You've always been more bold than me in that respect. I honestly admire you for it. :)

You're my Detroit Defending Hero! :)
