To Tomo, the prospect of falling in love at first sight was utterly ridiculous.
“How is it possible to know that the person you see on first sight is the right one for you?” he frequently found himself arguing with his friends whenever the topic of dating the right one came up. “For all you know, it’s probably because you think, ‘hey that person is attractive.’ No?”
And this time round, his (un)fortunate debating partner raised an eyebrow. “I dunno. I’m not all about love at first sight too, but hey, it can happen.” Umi took a sip of his beer. “I think you can’t really discount such a possibility.”
“Yea, I agree with Umi!” Tohya piped up. “Umi and I didn’t exactly didn’t fall in love at first sight either, but I think first sight can lead up to eventual love!” Umi nodded as he pulled down his over-bubbly boyfriend down back onto his seat. “So Tohya says.”
Before Tomo could retort, Mao cut in. “Come on Tomo, everything is formed by first impressions. And anyone can fall in love anywhere. Heck, you could even end up meeting your fated one in a toilet of all places.” A series of choking noises had Mao and Tomo looking at their other friends. “What? That’s true isn’t it?”
“What, and look at each other while doing your liquid business?” Tsurugi said dryly. “And say hi, nice to see you here?”
“Oh shut up.” Mao glared at the now sniggering group. “I said it’s a possibility!”
“Your possibilities are kinda off you know.” Byou chuckled at his elder brother figure. “It makes it sound disgusting. Anyway, is Mizuki and Manabu coming over to join us?”
“Mizuki says they just ended their group meeting, so they are on their way here now.” Mao flipped his phone shut. “But back to you Tomo, relationships don’t just happen like that. There has to be that first sight thing. Heed our advice; we are the ones in a relationship here.”
Tomo shrugged. “I’ll think about it.”
The group exchanged glances, shrugged and went back talking to lighter topics. Still, Tomo thought as he joked with Kei about bald heads when the new term for their university began, such a possibility is nonsense.

“Someone tell me why I took biological science again.” Kazuki groaned as he threw his textbook behind him and flopped onto the grass. “How the hell am I supposed to memorize all of these!? And it’s only the start of the new term!”
“Says the person who scored a distinction in human biology.” Mizuki looked up from where he was solving an equation with Tohya. “If I didn’t know better I would have thought that Manabu had sat the exam for you.”
Kazuki smirked suggestively at Mizuki. “I have my ways when it comes to studying human biology.” Mizuki rolled his eyes but he was grinning as Rui threw an eraser at Kazuki’s head. “Ouch!”
“Perverts.” Rui shook his head and went back to his textbook. Kazuki rubbed the spot where Rui’s eraser had hit him. “Your Chawan is more pervy than I am. I’m not that bad you know…”
“Yea and Bubu would still be an angel if he didn’t date you.” Rui turned around happily as a familiar voice came into the clearing, Tomo and Mao following closely behind. “Chawan!”
“Osu~” Byou sat down next to his lover, the two of them pecking each other on the lips. “Oh man I think I’m gonna be sick.” Tomo clutched his stomach as the others made gagging sounds and Mao turned to look at Mizuki. “Come Mi, let’s chuu too!”
“You guys kiss a lot don’t you.” Kazuki looked at them in disgust. “And I see tongue!”
“That coming from someone who’s like making out with Manabu every second he’s in sight?” Byou raised an eyebrow.
“I can’t help it that he’s got nice lips and he’s cute!” Kazuki whined. Byou rolled his eyes. “So you say. Anyway, where’s he?” Byou looked around for the short, pale-skinned man.
“If you two weren’t childhood buddies I’ve chewed your ass off now.” Kazuki muttered, feeling a tad jealous at Byou’s concern for his boyfriend. “He’s still in class talking to their lecturer on today’s lesson, and oh, he says he wants to introduce some new friends to us.”
“New friends?” Tohya said happily. “That’s nice!” Umi gave him a blank look. “Why are you being so happy about it…”
“But I’m tired of seeing all your faces…”
“Excuse me!?” laughter went round the group as Umi shot a withering look at his laughing boyfriend.
“What’s the commotion here about?” everyone looked up once again as a raven-haired man came into the clearing. “Mana-chan!” Kazuki jumped up and glomped the shorter man. “I missed youuuu~~~”
“Oh get off me you’re heavy!” Manabu pushed the other man away, looking extremely annoyed. “But I missed you~~” he pecked the younger man’s cheek, who blushed violently. Kazuki grinned and looked over his shoulder. “Oh, you guys are Mana-chan’s friends? Hello!”
From where they were sitting, Tomo caught sight of a strawberry blond haired and a browned haired man with blonde ends, but he could hardly see their faces since they were talking to each other and were quite a distance away…
“Kazuki, do you mind moving aside so Manabu can sit down and we can see his friends?” Umi said mildly, crossing his arms over his chest. Kazuki scratched his head sheepishly. “Oh, sorry.”
Manabu shook his head in amusement as Kazuki went back to his place and sat down, looking sulky. “Thanks Umi. Anyway, let me introduce to you my new friends! Yuh, Ruisu, over here!”
Heads started craning around as the two newcomers shyly stepped forward, and Tomo watched Kazuki’s eyebrow twitch slightly as Manabu put his arm on the brown-blonde man before diverting his attention back to the newcomers.
“Guys, this is Yuh,” the strawberry blonde waved happily, “and this is Rui. But we call him Ruisu.” Manabu patted the brown-blonde man. “And for the rest of you…do your own introductions.” Manabu grinned.
“Lazy Bu.” Byou grumbled as Manabu walked around them to sit next to Kazuki, Rui and Yuh settling themselves next to him as well. “Anyway, I’m Byou. Bu’s like my younger brother; we grew up together. And this is my boyfriend, Rui.”
“Nice to meet you, Rui-san, Yuh-san. Hope that you guys will join us more often from now!” Rui said cheerfully. Yuh and Rui smiled their thanks. “We are glad to be able to join you guys. And just call us Yuh and Ruisu, that’s fine.” Yuh said, smiling.
“And this is Kazuki, my idiot boyfriend.” Manabu grinned as Kazuki made protesting sounds. “And that’s Umi and Tohya, Mao-san and Mizuki, and this is Tomo. You’ll meet the rest later, they are still in class.”
“That’s fine.” Ruisu said cheerfully. “Still, it’s nice to meet all of you. Manabu tells us a lot about you guys.”
“Nothing bad I hope?” Tomo said, one eyebrow raised. Ruisu laughed. “Nope, definitely nothing bad. He’s always saying how he’s got a nice bunch of friends that he wants us to meet and be part of.”
“Nice to hear that!” Tohya looked at Manabu, who smiled and shrugged. “How did you guys get to know each other by the way?”
As they all broke into their own banter, Tomo found himself constantly looking to the gentle features and voice of a certain brown-blonde man.

“Eh? Tomo-san?” Tomo looked up from his notes in surprise. Rui smiled down at him. “I had no idea you were in art class too.”
“Neither did I.” Tomo smiled. “Nice to see a familiar face around.” Rui smiled even wider, and Tomo found it endearing. It was like…Rui’s smile could light up the world…
He blinked. What was that? Shrugging it off, he smiled up at the other man again. “Do you wanna sit here? Since I think everyone else probably has their own partners…”
“Is that alright?” Tomo grinned. “Of course its alright. Here.” He pulled the chair out, and Rui sat down and gave him a grateful look. “Thanks a lot. I was really hoping to see a familiar face around. I meant to take it with Manabu, but his boyfriend beat me to him first.” Rui chuckled. “He was complaining about it though.”
Tomo laughed. “Sounds like something Kazuki would do. He looks like an idiot and all, but he does really love Manabu.” Tomo smiled as a certain memory came to mind. “Byou wasn’t very approving of it at first though.” Rui blinked in surprise. “Really?”
“Yea.” Tomo grinned as he leaned over closer, voice dropping to a whisper. “You see, there was this one time…”

Before he knew it, he was seeing Rui in almost all of his classes, much to the surprise of the other man as well.
Not that he minded though. Rui was exceptionally endearing, with his cute little smiles, his giggles and the fact that he looked very adorable didn’t hurt as well.
“Hey Ruisu.” He turned to the other man as they ended their class for the day. “Wanna go grab a bite? Since we ended late and all…”
“Sure, why not?” Rui smiled. “It’s nice that I was hungry too.”
“I know this great burger place a few blocks from the university. Let’s go shall we?” jokingly, he reached out a hand, and Rui laughed as he put his hand on top of Tomo’s. “Yes, please.”

“This place is great.” Rui said, admiring the glass paintings on the wall. “It’s a really nice atmosphere here. Thanks for bringing me here.” Rui smiled shyly.
“You’re welcome.” Tomo smiled. “Glad that you like this place though.” Rui chuckled.
“How could anyone not like this place? This place is really great…” Rui went back to admiring the glass drawings as Tomo looked at him, admiring every little gestures that Rui was making…
He certainly didn’t recall hearing his heart beat this lively before.
“Maybe that’s because I haven’t brought anyone here before. You’re the first.” Rui looked at him in surprise. “Really? I’m the first?”
“Yea.” He chuckled. “None of them really know I hang out here. Manabu and Mao maybe since they’re pretty sharp, but I don’t think the others noticed.”
“Then I’m very honoured to be the first.” Rui said, smiling happily.
“If you like…we can always come here.” Tomo smiled. “Just ring me up…or I can ring you up.”
“Is that an invitation to a date?” Rui teased, smilingly.
A date…
“No.” Tomo smiled, but he had not missed the slight disappointed look in Rui’s eyes.
“It is a date.”
Maybe there was no such thing such as love on first sight, but looking at the blushing man sitting opposite him, Tomo smiled.
He probably owed Tohya a treat for this.
