Having almost lived in this neighbourhood his whole life, to not know anyone here was impossible.

At least, for Jin himself.

Growing up in this silently yet homely town, Jin decided that there was nothing better than opening a bakery here, in this little town he dearly called home.
And the best part was, everyone loved the pastries and freshly-baked bread that he made, so much so that he knew all of their little preferences.

Sweet little Kibou-chan with her love for the cream puffs, the cream smooth yet creamy, filling up the pastry nicely, rowdy and with a bottomless stomach for fruit tarts, soccer-loving Akira-kun and then Granny Toothless with her love for his azuki-filled matcha bread…

All their little preferences, he knew.

So when the younger of the twins helping him out at the bakery told him of a new family moving in, he was, the least to say, surprised.

“Just two people?” Jin looked up from where he had been carefully placing thinly sliced strawberries onto the cream tart to Rui, who was busy beating the eggs.

The dusty blonde-haired man nodded, cursing a little as his hat slipped. “Yea. Yuuto saw the mover truck. He couldn’t really see their faces, but he thinks it’s a couple who probably love each so much they look so similar from the back. He was mentioning about how the woman has a really nice behind but that’s unnecessary information. But really, it’s been a while since anyone new has moved into this town…”

“In which, it calls for a party!” the two men jumped as a loud yell rang through the kitchen, and the kitchen door flew open to greet a chocolate- brown haired man and a shorter black with blonde ends haired man following close behind, both wearing huge grins on their faces.

“Oh my god Zuki, you nearly gave me a heart attack!” Rui scowled. “And nearly wasted these good eggs too!” Said man walked over and peered into the bowl.

“Oh~ looking good there~” he was promptly rewarded with a smack to head with the end of the beater. “Ouch!”

Jin sighed. “Kazuki, Kifumi, you’re late for work again. Hurry get to work now, the customers will be coming in soon!”

A chorus of ‘Haiiii~~’ answered him as his three helpers resumed their work. Jin smiled.

Maybe the new visitors would drop by soon, and then he would have some new recipes to work on.

“Well, that’s the last of it…” the pale-skinned man dusted his hands as he stepped down the ladder and admired his arrangement.

“Looking good there Bu.” Manabu turned his head in surprise. “Oh Byou-nii, everything done up there too?”

“Yea.” Manabu turned back to look at the pictures frames lined up on the wall as Byou walked over to join him. “It’s been quite a long while since we came back here huh.”

“Ah.”

There was a long but comfortable silence, until a growling sound decided to make itself known. Byou raised an eyebrow at his younger sibling.

“What? I can’t help that it doesn’t shut up when I get it to!” Chuckling, he rubbed the younger’s head affectionately. “Fine fine, I’ll go grab us some food while you finish up the rest?”

One does not simply walk into a shop without making your presence known.

To Yuuto, that was the most basic form of courtesy a customer could give.

So either he must have been daydreaming or sleeping with his eyes wide open when he finally noticed the somewhat imposing dark figure standing by the glistening macaroons, all sparkling in their glazed glory with even as they were to meet their end in this dark, gloomy man’s stomach.

Seeing as the man looked exceptionally focused on the macaroons, Yuuto slowed inched towards the kitchen, the same time his twin walked out with a smaller tray of chocolate muffins.

“Yuuto, wha-“ Rui started, but was promptly cut off by an anxious hand.

“Sound the alarm. Seems like our new guest is here.”

Byou looked at the little sparkling pastries in half interest, half amusement. Fairy-glitteroons. He read the sign again.

“Fairy-glitter huh?” Manabu would love this. The younger man had always had a fascination with the unknown, especially pixies. The corner of Byou’s mouth twitched as a certain childhood memory came floating back to his mind.

“You seem very fascinated with that.” Eyes breaking contact with the little macaroons, Byou straightened and turned to an equally amused dirty- blond haired man looking at him. Judging by the clothes he was wearing, this would be the baker of these sparkly, almost inedible little macaroons, and the other wonderful pastries and breads that he had just seen.

“I had a memory of something that looked suspiciously like these ‘roons. Lots of sparkle.” Byou shrugged. “Did you…” he looked around the shop. “bake all these yourself?”

“I would need to grow several more arms for that, and I don’t think even that would be enough. So I have a few helpers here.” The blonde motioned to behind him, where the rest of them waved from where they were huddling at the kitchen door. “The chocolate-haired one is Kazuki, and beside him is Kifumi. The two behind them are twins Yuuto and Rui. I’m Jin by the way. Are you new here?”

Byou shook the other man’s hand, albeit a little lazily. “I’m Byou. Yea, you could say it that way.”

An awkward silence fell. But with resident gossiper Yuuto, silence was something not allowed.

“So, Byou-san, are you married?” Everyone turned to him. “What? It’s just a friendly question! Unless the woman is his girlfriend?”

“You don’t ask someone like that, you idiot!” Rui thumped his elder brother on the head. “It’s not nice!”

While the others argued, Byou blinked. Married? Girlfriend? Then it struck him. Of course…who else could they be referring to except his brother. Byou grinned. Manabu would certainly throw a fit, but he was not about to rectify this situation. He would definitely send his brother down here one day.

“Well…I do wonder about the nature of my relationship with her…” he sighed. The argument stopped as everyone looked at him. “She’s fairly quite the tigress, y’know. But quite a darling, pretty innocent and all…”

“I know! I know that feeling completely!” Kazuki sauntered over to him. “When the Cupid strikes and you would love no other but-”

“Kazuki, shut up. For starters, you haven’t even fallen in love before.” Yuuto deadpanned as a shocked, and then depressed Kazuki slunk back towards them.

“That hurt, Yuu-chan, very painful…” everyone ignored the depressed ball of gloom that was Kazuki. “So, anything that tickles your hunger pangs? Jin bakes the best stuff around here!” Kifumi spoke up cheerfully.

“Well I did see quite a fair bit…and I’m pretty spoilt for choice. Baker-san, any recommendations?” he looked at Jin, who looked thoughtfully at him. “Well, let’s see what your taste preferences are, for starters?”

Another series of growls rang vibrated through the room as an irate Manabu set down the can of paint a little too forcefully, droplets splashing out onto the newspapers.

“It’s food. IT’S JUST FOOD. SO WHERE THE HELL IS THAT IDIOT BROTHER OF MINE!?”

Another sharp-pitched growl sounded. Annoyance at the max, Manabu glared down at his stomach.

“And you, SHUT UP!”

“Cinnamon?”

“Nah, they smell too strong.”

“Raisins?”

“I hate those little shrivelled things.”

“Or how about these croissants?”

“Looking nice. Okay. Two of them then.”

“Well, I supposed that’s enough? I don’t think your tray can hold anymore.” Both of them looked at the mini mountain of bread, the edges of the tray barely visible as Byou cradled it in his hands. “Gotta agree with you on that. This is enough to last me and my bro-, I mean, my girl for a few days.”

“Still, you guys have to eat proper meals, is this much enough for all three meals?” Jin asked as they walked back towards the counter, Yuuto looking at the tray in amazement.

“Probably once we get more settled down. We’re still renovating the house, after all.” Byou shrugged, as his eyes once more drew themselves to the glazed macaroons.

“You really like those , don’t you.” Byou turned to Jin, who grinned at him. “Since you’re new and all here, I’ll give you one of it. As a welcome present.”
“Nah, its alright. I-”

“Insist.” Jin slid the door open and smiled up at the other man. “Like I said, treat it as a welcome gift.

“What took you so long?” Manabu grumbled as he trudged over to the sofa. “My stomach keeps growling and - that looks good!”

Byou shook his head in amusement as Manabu walked round to sofa to sit next to him while he sorted out the bread he had just bought. “It’s from the bakery we saw when we were driving in. Baker’s a really smile happy guy, and…” he handed a small box over to the younger man. “this is a welcome gift.”

Manabu’s eyes lighted up as he saw the contents of the box. “Macaroons! It’s been such a long time…and it looks like the one Grandma used to always make for us!” He looked at Byou happily. “This is awesome.”

“He’s awesome, you mean. The baker. Anyway, you should really go down there one of these days. It’s really good there, and you can buy enough to fill that bottomless pit that is your stomach.” No sooner had Byou finished his sentence a cheese bun was shoved into his mouth.

“Shut up and eat before you go on how much you love the baker.”

“I don’t -“ the cheese bun was shoved back into his mouth.

“Just eat.”
