Anita Baker, "Same Ole Love"
Here is a song whose name I actually didn't know until last night when my iTunes, playing on shuffle, spat this out. Now, I know the song. More than "Sweet Love" (recently butchered on American Idol), this was the song that made me gank my brothers' Anita Baker "Rapture" album, even though I wasn't into smooth R & B at the time (more hair metal and rap). It was, and is, just such a good song. The video adds something special to the song - a view of middle-class Detroit, which looks a bit like areas I grew up around. Made me miss home a little bit. Almost.
Damn, Anita can sing.
"You know I need you babe/ from beginning to end/ three hundred sixty five days of the year/ I want your same ole lovin' baby." Word.

The record version starts with 44 seconds or so of smooth singing. But when this jam gets going... damn. Matt S and I were trying to remember the name of this song - he wanted to play it at a wedding - and we texted
Mike the 2600 King, who was emphatic about how dope this song is. It makes me want to buy a pale-colored suit and relaxer.

Force MD's, "Tender Love"
mediadork, off of a conversation we had while she was in Chicago about Bone Thugs-N-Harmony (who played the nearby Congress Theater as we walked by) sent me this smooth pants-dropper of a song. I always think it's corny at first - and it sure is - but these homely fellows have something going here. I can't turn it off. As I said in my response to
mediadork, I think a bathtub is filling itself with scented bubble bath... which is really weird in an office. Slow Jamz, homey. Slow jams.
