So I hear back from this place I interviewed with. It went like this:

HR Lady: I'm calling to ask if you'd be able to relocate for this position.

Me: I figured I'd have to, so yes. I was browsing ads for apartments in the area the other day.

HR Lady: That's great, but would you be relocated by the start date?

Wow. I didn't know it was so offensive to ask for relocation reimbursement. Times are tough, man.

What I don't understand is why they'd care if you had a long commute for a few weeks. I knew people in L.A. who commuted 3 hours one-way for work.

And, yeah, while it's okay for their company to not offer reimbursement for moving expenses, to act like asking for them is some sort of affront is shitty.

as long as you get to work on time, the relocating (or not) should be YOUR decision, since technically you live within travelling distance of the job. if they don't want to pay for you to relocate then fine, but it certainly isn't a crime for you to ask. methinks HR bitch protests too much

management should be informed how abusively she is treating prospective employees...i mean, they wanted to hire you, not her
