My momentum has slowed down a bit, now that I'm desperately trying to tie off loose ends and bring the chapter (and the story) to a satisfying end. But I did get a bit written.
Excerpt: (in which some people are discussing their illicit affairs with the atypical Vulcans from "Fusion")
"You're just envious because they didn't have any technically inclided babes on board that would have picked you!" She (=Lt. Anna Hess) delivered that outrageous statement with such an earnest face that everyone cracked up again.
"I must admit that if you had to pick a Vulcan, at least you've picked a decent one," Charlie Tucker then said. "Not so sure about Travis, though. That pointy-eared amazon of his was downright intimidating."
"He didn't pick her," Anna corrected. "He was picked by her. And they clearly had fun. That's what counts; this wasn't a lifelong commitment, after all."
Another 270-odd words of my story, mostly just Wen Ning thinking about what he has gotten into with his new 'pet' and that people will not like it... and I fiddled with the descriptions as well.
Yep, it's a baby and scared when Wen Ning comes across it, he is a sweetie (that's canon, he is the official cinnamon roll) so he doesn't kill it and sort of adopts it...
Reasonable progress, although I did too much dithering before I got started. 682 words. You might as well hear about my lunch for a change!
The cafe had told me a story about how they usually put sandwiches in box with salad and crisps, but they could wrap the sandwich up and give me a packet of crisps to save me carrying the box, and I'd just said yes to everything - I didn't realise until I opened it up that they had put all the salad *inside* the sandwich, probably more salad than tuna. But it was good, and so was rocky road made with gingernuts - best meal of the trip!
I should possibly have quoted the bit where I was sitting on a little slab bridge with my feet in a muddy ditch, because there was nowhere else to sit. But it was a good meal!
