If you read Matthews geneology you will notice that he includes mention of 5 women in the line of Jesus. This is important because Jewish geneologies normally don't include or give credit to the mother. But in Matthew's geneology you have Tamar ( who slept with her father-in-law in order to get pregnant), Rahab (who was a protitute and a non-hebrew), Ruth (another non-hebrew whose relationship with Boaz before they were married could have raised eye-brows. Look up what it means to "uncover his feet"), Uriah's wife "Bathsheba" ( who was guilty of adultry) and Mary whose husband was Joseph (but who was not Jesus' father) Think about these women and why Matthew includes them in the geneology of Jesus.
