It wasn't rare, even on a Saturday, for Dale to be up before Charlotte, so, rubbing her eyes, she shuffled in the kitchen expecting him to already be up and about with a pot of coffee already ready and maybe even some breakfast.
What she did not expect, not even in a million years, was a blue...thing in there, instead, tearing up the place in a mess of what looked like....cookies?
She screamed. She couldn't help it. And then, realizing that screaming was not the best thing to do when your kitchen was being invaded, hoped that the thing hadn't heard as she ducked back out and then, tentatively, trying to access the situation and what to do about it, peeked around the corner.
"Hello!" the blue furry monster cried out and followed it up with a happy wave.
Monsters from Sesame Street always knew that a happy wave settled most scared children. And the occasional adult.
"Don't be afraid. Me am nice monster! See? I have blue fur and googly eyes and I only eat COOOOKIES! OMNOMNOMNOM!"
Cookie Monster also ate pie. Pastry. Cake. And occasionally the letter "O" because it was round like a cookie but he tended to forget that part when cookies were around.
Oh, God, it was talking to her. Charlotte jumped back from the door, back to the wall, as she took in some deep breaths to try and calm herself down. Deep breaths. Think about this carefully. Don't make any sudden and irrational decisions. Maybe, just maybe, if she carefully worked her way into the kitchen, where she could get to a pan or a rolling pin...
She cautiously peeked around the door again. "But what," she asked tentatively, "are you doing in my kitchen?"
Yes, there was an obvious answer to that, but Charlotte still felt she should ask.
There was a dramatic pause as the blue furry guy held up another large cookie.
"COOKIES! OMNOMNOMNOM!"
The cookie exploded into crumbs as the cookie was eaten.
And then there were no more cookies.
"Good cookies!" he called out and then stared at the plate. It was round. Just like a cookie. Mmmm. OMNOMNOMNOM "Good plate! What your name little lady?"
