a birding story

(This story is mostly for aych, but maybe someone else cares about my awesome old lady hobby of birdwatching.) So, today I stopped by Miller/Knox Park to grade finals and look at birds. I figured I'd reward myself after reading a few papers by walking around to look at the birds

Have you seen "The Big Year" with Steve Martin, Owen Wilson & Jack Black? It's all about birding. I just watched it this last weekend. It's funny!

Yes! I love that movie, it's what got me interested in birding. I hope I get th fe DVD for Christmas so I can watch it again. :)

(Also, fyi, I couldn't see the hummingbird picture from the link, but when I went over to flickr and looked at your stream I could see it fine. So I'm not sure what's up with that.)

Thank you! I think I accidentally set it to private. You were probably looking at one of the other hummingbird photos! But I fixed it now. :)

I love birds so much and I do always take my binoculars with me when I go walking, but I don't really know anything about them. I should pick up a book about ornithology sometime.

You totally should! Or watch "The Big Year," since that's a fun gateway drug into birding.

I am excited to see what birds are in the Low Countries next time I visit!

We sometimes have a Swainson's Hawk in our back yard. I hope it's hunting rats, but sometimes it is definitely hunting the birds at the neighbor's birdfeeder.

I have never seen a Swainson's Hawk, that's cool! I will have to come look for Sacramento birds sometime.
