I don't have the perfect photo storage solution, but if you take a lot of pictures with your phone, I'd recommend Dropbox as a partial solution. (I hate Flickr for backup, too. In fairness, it's not really intended for that purpose.) You install Dropbox on your phone and your desktop and the app(s) keep all your photos synchronized using the "cloud." You get a certain amount of storage for free and I think taking existing photos and adding them to your cloud space is straight-forward. I believe you can also purchase additional space if needed, but you get a decent amount for free.
Hmmm maybe Smugmug for the photos? Do you want to actually be able to view them or do you just want your files backed up in the case of an apocalypse/computer blows up? I use Crashplan to back up my files to the cloud, what I like about it is that you can set priorities (so you can choose to back up photos first, followed by videos, followed by your documents etc), and that it backs up anytime your computer is idle. I use both Smugmug and Crashplan but with Smugmug I manually upload my photos and with Crashplan it's just constantly backing my shit up to the cloud without me lifting a finger. I am lazy so that is good.
I've been saving this in my email since January... ahhaha. I finally decided to go with Jungle Disk, since I already had an account, and it does the automatic backups. I think it might be a bit expensive but it was the easiest option, and I trust that Amazon will most likely continue to exist for a while. Thanks for the suggestions!!
