Kay Kay thx

So tonight I went to what I thought was going to be an album release party for the incredibly catchy ensemble Kay Kay and his Weathered Underground. Turns out that I'd misread the billing, thinking that "Siberium" was the album name when it was in fact the name of the band releasing the album. Oops.

If I haven't raved to you personally yet, here's some background... I first saw KK&HWU at Endfest 2007, and despite their inauspicious placement on the local stage early in the day they were the festival's absolute highlight. They apparently have a three-person "core," and rotate various instrumental backups as availability permits. At EndFest they had thirteen members, including french horns, a tuba, and three violins (among others) to complement the typical rock instruments (guitar, bass, drums). Tonight they had eleven members, if I remember correctly.

I know I acted like a complete goober, but damned if they didn't give one of the most infectiously energetic performances I've ever seen. I couldn't resist doing my particular brand of concert dancing (not full-out dancing, of course, but more active than the stand-there-and-nod-your-head style that represents the typical audience participation). After their set, the band members slowly filtered out into the crowd from backstage, and (against all my training as VT concerts director) I went up to one of them, introduced myself, and told her how spectacular I thought they'd been. She was totally cool about it, and thanked me for the support. I never thought of myself as someone who gets starstruck easily; I've met a few famous or semi-famous people and been pretty mellow about it, but this was the first time I've gotten to meet someone I was already a fan of. I'm hoping I didn't make a complete ass out of myself.
