a room with a view

Ok, I'm bored. This is lately a pretty foreign concept for me, as proved the the usual giant pile of work on my desk, mile long to do list in my diary, and the fact that I haven't posted on LJ in nearly a month ( Read more... )

Thankee!

BTW, you may not be able to answer this, or remember back that far, but my computer is dying of lack of harddisk space (I have under 5Gb left! Woe!) Do you remember how you chose your external harddrive? Would you recommend it to me? Or have any advice on choosing a new one? I've pretty much decided 200Gb will do me (it took me 2 years to fill up 60Gb, so I don't think space will be a problem for a while!) but other than that I know very little except shiiiiiiny things attract me, and if I remember correctly your external hardrive was very shiny!

For my hard drive, I got the same one that my brother had, as I knew that it worked well and couldn't really find anything better at the time! I would recommend it, but that model is unlikely to be available any more, as they've probably updated their product line.

200Gb would definitely do I'd've thought, it is a large amount so should be plenty! Mine was very shiny, and was the LaCie brand, so you could try looking at them on ebuyer or something? One thing I would particularly recommend though, is getting one which has an on/off switch. You probably wouldn't want the hard drive running all the time, and I just leave mine plugged in to the usb the whole time and switch it on when needed. Though if you need your usb sockets and are only going to be plugging it into the usb when you want to use it, then this isn't really an issue. And when you look at them online they might not even specify whether they have a switch, so this might not help anyway!

OOh, that sounds like just the sort of info I was after thank you! I will investigate amazon and ebuyer post-haste!

Probably cos I have a laptop and am shifting it around the place all the time the harddrive won't be plugged in except when I need it, but I will probs look for one with an off switch too, just in case. I will have a look and see what they've got in your brand as well, I'd definitely much rather go for something someone's found ok, than picking a random brand on a whim!
