Carson also hadn't lied when he said that they wouldn't stay long. He was polite, and he fully intended to mingle for a wee bit before stealing away back to the compound.
He had mingled, he had enjoyed the wine, and now he stood behind Catherine, quiet for a moment before he kissed her just below her ear.
"Hi there," said Catherine, sighing softly and contentedly as he kissed her. "Are you having a good time? I've been watching to see if Valentine tries to crash the party or if he stays in the office like a good boy."
"Somethin' tells me that if Valentine wants t'come to the party, there's not much that'll stop him." Carson said, with a small laugh. Somehow, he thought that Valentine might be the end of both of them one day.
"Mmm," agreed Catherine. "You're probably right, but he can take care of himself." She leaned back against him. "And you're back, so he's not first in my thoughts at the moment."
