Working on a paper that employs both ancient Greek with breathing marks and Romanised Sanskrit pushed me to discover that every font included with Windows lacks the capability to display both, and the font that comes closest, Tahoma, looks like crap on the page. FWIW, Mac OS X will automatically swap in glyphs from a different font if the current one lacks the ones you're using.

That's genius. It seems to happen automatically in Windows in, say, a web browser, but not so much when I use Pidgin.
