I subscribe to A Word A Day, and last week's word was "ort". An ort is a small morsel of food, perhaps left on a fork or a plate. From this definition it has entred the register of sewing: an ort is also a piece of thread left in the eye of a needle. One reader wrote in to share what ort means to nem.
