Title: Sword and Shield
Series: Naruto and Hunter x Hunter crossover
Timeline notes: Starts out right at the startish of the Itachi Pursuit arc, and a bit after Netero goes personally to deal with the Chimera Ant problem. I started writing this during the long hiatus that took place before the end of the Chimera Ant arc (and therefore before the Zodiac were introduced or it was explained how Netero's successor would be chosen), so it's somewhat AU in that regard, but I'll try to integrate the new canon information into it as best I can.
Premise: In their respective canons, Sasuke and Kurapika are both sole survivors of their clans, both have their universe's version of Godmode Eyes, are both geniuses, are both set up to be ultimately doomed by their quests for vengeance, and are both incredibly broken people, although good at hiding the fact from casual observers. The main difference between them is that Kurapika's managed to still retain light and kindness and a strong moral compass despite it all, while Sasuke ends up explicitly turning his back on all that to jump on the express sled to cackling supervillainy.
So what happens if (through a small series of initial plothole-patching contrivances to get around the fact that the two series obviously take place in completely different worlds) they end up meeting, and decide to team up to help each other accomplish their goals? Will the fact that, for the first time, they're no longer completely alone in their pain and anger help them both rise above what destiny had planned for them? Or will they create a perfect storm of hatred and destruction? Perhaps a little bit of both?
Pairing: Eventual Sasuke/Kurapika. This is, to my knowledge, the first fanwork shipping them to be published to the net, which is actually a big part of why I started writing this in the first place.
Rating: 18+ overall, but individual chapters will vary
Note on Warnings: I will be warning per chapter as I go, but there's going to be a lot of violence and a lot of very assorted dark themes and general unpleasantnesses. It's not going to be a beginning-to-end grimdark fest, but this is going to be a very long fic, so it's gonna add up over time. However, since there's some things I know are going to come up eventually, and some of those things are very commonly triggery (while others are just more generally upsetting or creepy), I'm going to put that laundry list here.
Warnings I know will come up eventually, in no particular order: graphic to semi-graphic violence, character death, transfail (mild spoiler), misogyny, childhood sexual abuse discussed as backstory (moderate-to-major spoiler depending on your viewpoint, but also potentially REALLY triggering), abduction, slavery/human trafficking, Hisoka, Feitan, Karin (one thing these three all have in common is that they are sexual predators, although none of them manage anything graphic in that regard (mild spoiler)), discussion of genocide, Kurapika's tendency towards dealing with people/situations he finds upsetting with violence towards the offender's face, genjutsu/mindrape (there's a whole lot of overlap there), and discussion of suicide. This list is probably going to grow.
