BEATS ON BROADWAY
Bar Broadway
Friday March 31
Level 2 Bar Broadway is a nice venue. A few things seem out of place, such as the lighted blinds that make it seem like 3 o' clock in the afternoon despite it being well after dark and some '70s looking green wallpaper on only one section of the walls. The sound there seems great and overall it seems to be one of the best venues of its size in Sydney.
Unfortunately not many people had arrived by the time the first band played, Bordello (from Victoria), so it seemed a bit too spacious. Nevertheless, Bordello was very tight and seemed completely undaunted by the scarcity of people (those that were there seemed to be members of the other bands and a few friends of Bordello). This band deserves a bigger audience for they sure know how to party.
http://www.bordello.com.au/ All the band members of The Suitable Few seemed to be in an extremely good mood this night. Topic jams included: Labradoodles, Warcraft, Chuppachups, Punk Rock, and Baggy Shirts. More people need to check this band out, for they are not only talented and original (rare things these days) but they are damn well FUN!
http://www.thesuitablefew.com/forum/topic.cfm?section=shows&id=51 Hip Hop trio 206 Collab. were on next. I hadn't seen these guys play since the first time I saw The Suitable Few, in October 2004. But they were just as good a year and a half later, if not better, albeit without Halloween props and costumes this time.

The DJ had some technical difficulties with the CD player early on in the set. The two MCs did some spontaneous free styling and beat boxing while that was being sorted out. That way, they didn't let it hinder their set, which remained strong and enjoyable. 206 are good Australian hip-hop and I'd be happy to see them again.
http://www.206collab.com King Farook make me think they'd be perfectly suited to playing on the Gold Coast to a merrily drinking and dancing audience. Actually, that could probably be said for all the bands on the bill. Just like the night before, these guys prove they know how to funk it. Combining influences such as Morris Day & the Time with George Clinton and Sly & the Family Stone, King Farook carry on the smooth tradition of funky music.
