THE THIRD CYCLE + SWITCHKICKER

The Annandale Hotel
Thurs. 11th of May

Sun Room were in acoustic mode. i haven't seen them in their normal rock formation, but this suited their music. The drummer was eager to be playing a full kit rather than the djembe, but it fitted so well in the centre of the trio. Full of energy.

My seventh time hearing Breathe My Machine. Enjoyable as always and it's been a while, so it was good to hear the his good little pieces again.

The Third Cycle. Beyond words. Jess is an amazingly talented vocalist. The bass was so strong that at one point the air literally rippled before my eyes and i could feel the sound-wave hit me. Incredible. This is a band with a lot of potential to be BIG, as they already have a big sound.

The end of Switchkicker? For the year at least, it seems. Drummer Ben Ellingworth and keyboardist Jamie Leigh joined vocalist Dan Sutherland who also played acoustic guitar. Personally, i think this set up to be slightly better than having electric guitar and bass, given the nature of the songs. Dan was wearing a black tie with the Switchkicker logo on it, which he later revealed a fan at the front of the crowd had made for him. Only "" was played from METHOD 2, which i think more of could have been used. The set ended with the single "We're Not Apart" from the first Switchkicker album. But after much demand for an encore (lots of punters were yelling "BULL-SHIT" perhaps more than anything else), Dan came back on his own and performed solo a new song he'd recently written which didn't yet have a title. It was a surprisingly strong song though and i found it hard to believe it was just vocals and acoustic guitar, showing Daniel Sutherland truly is talented. i was really moved by this performance.
