ALTERED NOISE presents SELF | IS A SEED: PERSPECTIVE TOUR 2006

Jul 19, 2006 19:25

The Excelsior, Surry Hills.
Fri. 14th of July 2006

The Young Turbulence (made up of Dom on vocals/clarinet and Tav on acoustic guitar) ...apparently their last gig. i'm guessing because Miss Dom is relocating to Melbourne.

The second time i have seen this band, Los Alamos made me sleepy. I don't necesarily mean that as an insult, they just literally made me tired, but i guess i was tired anyway. However, i did see some other guy doze off, so maybe Los Alamos do have that affect. Like some other bands i've seen, it took me a couple of songs to realise they were all instrumental (they did have a microphone on stage, but they only used it to address the audience between songs), which might have explained why they weren't so exciting to some extent, although i think a harmonica or an accordian would've livened them up more than vocals would have.

RooK from Melbourne turned out to be pretty good. Not bad. Not bad at all.

Junto live is a spiritual journey and a mystical experience, more than just being a rock band. Joey (Joseph Tabua) paints richly textured landscapes with his guitar. He truly is in a league of his own in Sydney. This combined with singer Kane Sarich's distinctive vocals, pan pipes and audio-tape samples makes Junto stand out as one of the best bands not only in Sydney, but Australia (if not the entire world).Set list:

Whereas Junto takes a more spiritual journey, SELF | is a Seed explore dark and light, hard and soft melodies. It's ROCK at its most organic, moody and best. The band again played their cover of "Dinosaur" by King Crimson, which they introduced by saying "This song isn't on our new EP, but it's on something...it's on the album THRAK! by King Crimson"Set list:
